played tennis for an hour today after so long not exercising. refreshing I say. back and watched Ho Chak reviewing Austin Chase. can't help but notice the salivating yummy-licious turkey ham sandwich and the next thing I know, I took a quick bath and decided with the wife to drive to Gardens to have that for dinner.

what an impulse decision, but no regret. turned out satisfying dinner and a first great experience at Austin Chase after hearing good reviews from my boss. i'm definitely going back for their lunch set some weekend. choose either a sandwich or pasta set, ice coffee included. pasta set extra few ringgit but still worth it. Mission accomplish for the day.

finished season 1 today and really really satisfied with this series. yea I'm very outdated but this is the only English series that I watched and truly loved. like the way Simon Baker's character is so calm and cool in solving those crime cases. love it, truly love. can't wait to watch Season 2 right after this. wohooo. CNY catchup ex-colleagues

Saturday was well spent catching up with my ex-colleagues and also to have a look at her newborn daughter. was fun chatting like old times and not forgetting the laughters as well as the Black Jack game. CNY won't be CNY if not without card or mahjong game, and more interesting if gambling is part of it. this time breakeven, no win no lose unlike the previous poker game.

spent the whole day out with the usual gang, childhood friends which are one of the closest i have. eat drink during the day while talking our usual stuffs and resume the meeting till late hours of the night gambling poker. had no idea how to play but managed to observe them playing during the previous day house visiting another friend.

although lost Rm48 but gained some experience and also enjoyed the session a lot laughing and playing. reached home around 3am, took a bath, open the laptop to play a few rounds of Texas Hold'em Poker, lol which I've previously blocked. irony.

looking forward to next year's CNY gathering, and also the poker session. i will get better and also seek my revenge, lol. now back to finishing my freelance stuff for Wednesday demo.

there's this person in my office that doesn't know how to park car properly in the designated box. how lazy can one be, swing the car into your own box and that's it. without even bothering to adjust your car to ensure that you don't overpark to my box. if time's so precious to you, what makes you think that other's time is not precious? each time that you overpark to my box, I have to take more time to squeeze into my own box or worse still get frustrated and then just try finding other free parking space and having to walk further distance to get into office.

CNY 2011 Day 1

had the customary CNY eve family dinner, mum cooked as usual plus some meat bought from our favourite shop. highlight definitely the super hot and nice chilli paste that goes with the meat. had a super full meal equivalent to my normal 2 or 3 meals. satisfied meal.

on the CNY day 1, all I did was slept through the day. seriously like 90% of the time was spent sleeping and waking up just to had my meal. don't know why was I so tired or maybe it's just the break I been longing for after working for few months straight. am feeling super fresh now as i'm typing. must also be the coffee that I just had.

besides relaxing during these few days, I need to finish up the freelance prototype for next week's demo. hope all goes well with this and get paid at the end of April. then I can travel to Korea for honeymoon with the voucher that my wife had won. wohooooo!

had our monthly company meeting this morning. thought would be a normal one, hear some speech and back to the desk kinda thing. little did I know that I would win a RM100 Jusco voucher for being one of the employee of the month. surprised, very surprised actually. i couldn't stop shaking with joy even minutes after receiving it. no expectation at all and got strike with this. what a good way to start the week.

i view it as an encouragement to continuously improve myself. lots of things still to learn. I am not on par with others yet. still setting my sight on getting my passive income working. can't see the light yet for this passive stream, but hopefully something will materialize this year, I HOPE!

of all three local group purchasing websites, i prefer GroupsMore the most. simple interface and most importantly the deals are most suited to my likings. so far already bought 2 vouchers from this website. first being BadAssCoffee voucher, paid RM10 for a voucher worth RM20. good deal, coffee not that great.

the 2nd purchase was done last night purchasing a voucher for Darabif burger, redeemable at the IOI outlet. planned to go next Tuesday for lunch (caveat is only valid for Tuesday lunch). only spent RM2 for this purchase. good deal i must say!

2010 No Resolution Year

2010 will be the year of making no resolution. why make one when I don't follow. just go with da' flow. overall just wanna keep on improving myself. stuff myself with lots of reading! i want to read more on business news, learn the essence of share trading (not that I have the money to buy), learn French, improve my Chinese. NO this is not some new year resolution, it's just a P.L.A.N. maybe will materialize maybe not.

and also want to start working on building passive income. how and what, still figuring it out. 9 to 5 is really taking a toll on me, with the massive jams everyday, it's killing me. it's sapping up lots of my energy. think of the stuffs that I could do if I could get back all the wasted time in traffic jam!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

on another note, Jay-Z song "Empire State of Mind" featuring Alicia Keys is really awesome, and addictive. and the best part is the version sung by Alicia Keys alone is better!

Game: Real Crimes - The Unicorn Killer

spent saturday and sunday playing trial version of casual games downloaded from BigFishGames and PlayFirst. few good ones, few bad ones. normally you won't be able to finish the game within the 1 hour trial, but one game surprised me. it's the hidden object game, Real Crimes - The Unicorn Killer, based on the true story of Ira Einhorn a.k.a the Unicorn Killer. Followed the story line for the first 40 minutes, and later on just skipped past the story line to see whether I can complete the game within the trial period. and voila yes I can.

graphics wise was ok, nothing great, not too sloppy. the only thing I disagree is that clicking on the item list incurs time penalty, which shouldn't be the case. would give it an average only rating.

my current new addiction besides coffee, Nestle Fat Free yogurt. 2 flavors i've tried and liked so far are mango and mix lychee strawberry. yummy. just bought 7 of them from Giants which are 30 cents cheaper than Cold Storage (my work place store).

went to Jusco to renew the membership card. no forms required, just pass them the card and under 5minutes the spanking brand new card is printed. pay the yearly fees of RM12 and off we go, but not without a surprise gift in the form of 4 RM10 Jusco vouchers. actually not really free, it's the 2000+ points that we acquired all these while buying goods from Jusco(excluding grocery), with every RM500 entitle you for a RM10 voucher. wow~ never knew we have spent RM2000+ at Jusco. probably buying electrical goods for our own home and also for friends' housewarming,etc.

since today is Saturday will be resting bit and also doing some household, washing the floor mats and cooking sandwich for tea time. yummy. need learn cook more. wanna at least able to cook a decent light meal, fry some vege and cook some fish. adios~

garlic bread and chicken soup

Ling's sister-in-law made her first loaf of bread and gave us a few slices. not bad, but bit salty. good first try. so we bought Campbell chicken soup to go along with the bread which we applied butter and garlic to bake. that's our Sunday dinner and i've got to say is yummy. so no need to buy garlic spread from the supermarket. 2 photos from our dinner.

and that's some spiral macaroni we put inside the chicken soup. delicious.

my coffee is normal again

been having this weird taste in my Nescafe lately, just brushed off the weird taste and suspect that my cup smell. and i'm not really enjoying the coffee as i don't really smell caffeine. one night i had enough, and decided to just drink the fresh milk that i've been using all this while to make my coffee. yucksssssss!!! so the fresh milk is the culprit. it had turned bad and it's not even the expiry date yet. no wonder my coffee sucks all this while. off i throw it away and temporarily just use creamer powder to mix with coffee. just prefer to use fresh milk as the texture is smoother or I would like to think is smoother ;)

on another note, i would want to recommend using fresh milk rather than full cream milk. read somewhere that's this one particular ingredient in creamer milk that is not healthy or to that extent. will search and post the article one i find it. it's somewhere in my bookmark, messy bookmark to be exact.

2009 Resolution

2009 came quietly and peacefully for me, except for the fireworks that can be seen from my condo at midnight sharp. wasn't a grand one, short and simple from the nearby neighborhood i guess. truth is, I wasn't counting down as the midnight clock strikes 12, I was busy watching a Cantonese-Mandarin movie named "Connected" with my gf at home. suspense and nicely crafted movie. with a very funny moment with Louis Koo and the handphone service person.

matter of fact, I've never went for any countdown event till today, as I dislike crowded places and furthermore restaurants/pub/businesses really are treating us as 'water-fish' for the day. why give them more money when we know they purposely raise the price for the 'special' day.

as for resolutions, I must admit I'm a total failure all these years. made tonnes of them, but never really got any fulfilled. but, this year I feel different, I feel I can and I must achieve something. so i shall be realistic and not make tonnes of resolutions, instead just focus on a few. focus focus focus.. that's the key. here goes:

1) spend less and save more.
- wanna married in 1.5 years time (max). if rich faster, then shall tie the knot faster. yahooo!
- can provide better life to my future wife and my family. hopefully my parents can retire and not worry about money and spend more time doing what they like and relax. parents have provided lots to me and I shall and must repay them soon. hopefully I can provide means to renovate the kitchen which my mum wanted to few years ago, extension to existing kitchen so that she can cook in better and more ventilated environment.

2) ask more questions on anything, basically be hungry for knowledge and FOCUS!

shifting office... again

no, i'm not changing job. just that office downsized and luckily i was one of the staff retained. staff cut by more than half. games development industry really suffering as a result of the bad economy. nevertheless company is surviving well, cutting costs and getting smaller games to have money in quicker rather than getting big projects and paid later.

so tomorrow Friday will be last day at the KL Sentral office and relocating back to Mont Kiara. can't wait for Monday to step into the new office. new environment , new start, also celebrating my 1 year with the company. and finally doing games which I've been dreaming for ever since few years ago. finally!! although i'm still making mistakes but I'm improving. really wanna improve myself to a level where I'm good at games development. hoping in few years' time our local games development will pickup, and my dream of having a small game company will materialize.

Maxwell wrote the book "360 degrees Leader", simple and easy to understand. it's the book that really opened up my mind that to be a leader, you do not always have to be high up in a company. leaders can be anywhere in the organization, as long as you got followers. what good a leader high up is, if no one is following him/her?

thus, when I was strolling in MPH Midvalley over the weekend, I bought his other book "21 Indispensable Qualities of a Leader". read 8 qualities so far. not that I am targeting to be one, as I know I'm not born for that. just wanna improve my work performance and push myself further. let's see whether I'm a better person after finish reading... LOL

Maxis Broadband cancellation

went Sunway Pyramid to cancel my Maxis broadband as cancellation only can be done at Maxis Centre and besides KLCC and few more places, Sunway Pyramid is one of them. fine. but the sucky part was the waiting, have to wait 45 minutes for 2 customers in front of me. damn, that 1 particular customer buying a BlackBerry phone was so chatty with the sales person, and vice versa too. maybe cos i was making sour faces, only then did they brought another colleague to serve me. WTF!!! anyway, filled the return modem form and voila, offically the account will be cancelled on the 5th October. Maxis Broadband is not fun, at least for me, maybe due to my area's coverage. anyway no more Maxis for me, not even a free SIM card will make me change my mind. I'm sticking with Digi, and patiently awaiting the end of year to subscribe Streamyx cos that's when my another Internet account Izzi expires. woohoooooo!!!!!

and before going to Maxis, me n gf went to have dinner at Dragon-i, the Chinese restaurant which the myFM DJ Mr Lam has share in. nice. bit pricey but worth it. and surprise when the bill came, paying with CIMB credit card will entitle 10% discount. valid till end of year. woohooooo!!!!!!

yesterday after lunch at office, suddenly remembered about Babylon Zoo the band, famous for their hit song 'Spaceman'. brought back memory of their debut album 'The Boy with the X-Ray Eyes' which I used to own and love to bits. can't really get their CD nowadays, so try searching online and voila. one of the fan site providing their first 2 albums' mp3 for download, hopefully is with the band's consent. that really makes my day.

Nanyang.com as starting point

since I have some basic in the Chinese language as I attended People's Own Language (POL) class during my primary school years, so I decided to use Nanyang.com as a starting point to improve my Chinese. I'm quite lost as which section to click at the top header, so I guess first lesson is to really find the meaning of each section. As can be seen from the image below, 39 sections to learn, not a bad start.

So far I've only managed to learn a few by copying the Chinese characters and search the meaning & pinyin with help of a Mandarin dictionary from http://www.mandarintools.com/worddict.html. Cool site, which able to display the Chinese characters in both Traditional and Simplified Chinese as well as pinyin and explanation in English. Everyday will search and learn 3 or 4 sections, and try memorizing the Chinese characters to test myself the next day. So far so good. Adios~~~~

Blog reset, new goal

deleted all previous posts and starting from scratch again. just felt disorganized with the way i wrote my posts, so brand new blog, same old me.

1 week ago, started to watch Karena Lam's movie again. been a fan all this while. find her pretty cute and she's really a talented actress. she has this thing of picking different genre of movies to act in, perhaps to challenge herself and I like this attitude. But the point I admire most about her is the fact that she is from Canada and was a noob in reading and writing Chinese when she first started in Hong Kong biz and now she can read her own script without a translator. And she speaks good Mandarin and Japanese too. Try watching "July Rhapsody" co-starring Jacky Cheung, where Karena speaks Japanese fluently with a Jap tourist in the boutique she's working at.

Perhaps this prompted my desire to improve my Chinese and started to pickup Japanese myself and that's what I've been doing for the past 1 week. Another extra language or two won't do any harm right. Begin with the end in mind, so the famous quote from someone famous.

End result:
- able to read Chinese newspaper without bothering my gf, now whenever I see interesting pictures in the Chinese dailies, I would bug her to translate the meaning of the article for me.

- able to read Chinese comics

- able to read Japanese comics

Thus, I've set a goal for myself to improve my Chinese and pickup basic Japanese by end of the year. Impossible? Maybe, let's wait and see. I shall be documentating my self taught lesson here whenever possible.

And I've also created another blog dedicated to Karena Lam, may I present you with "All Things Karena Lam". It will just be a collection of links related to Karena and in the months to come, I will start to review each of her movie and music, and try to complete my collection of her movies and music albums.
